What’s the big deal with Facebook?

February 4 marks the fourth anniversary of Facebook. Founded by a Harvard student, Facebook was originally limited to college students; today anyone above the age of 13 can join.

So what is so fabulous about Facebook?

More than 60 million people have a Facebook profile and the site’s traffic is in the top 10 according to Alexa.

People are using Facebook to find friends from their past, stay connected with those in their circle and get introduced to those who may be able to help their career.

I created my own Facebook profile to see what all of the rage is about. While I haven’t landed any new business for Snackbox based on my Facebook connections, I have created an exciting community that allows me to stay in touch with friends and strengthen relationships that may not have existed after a project ended.

While I’d love to claim that I pass time on Facebook in an effort to grow my business, the truth is, the site has become more of a public display of my interests, my aptitude at movie trivia and how my friends rank me in appearance, personality, etc.

It’s like high school all over again. And, I’m completely addicted.
